You need to isolate yourself and stay indoors for at least 7 days after your symptoms started.
Find out more about how to self-isolate. Please read and follow this guidance carefully to protect others.
To protect yourself and others, do not go to a GP, pharmacy or hospital.
If you are on public transport:
- Go home by the most direct route.
- Stay at least 2 metres away from people if you can.
If you’re away from home:
- Find a room where you can close the door.
- Avoid touching people, surfaces and objects.
What happens after 7 days?
If, after 7 days, you no longer have a fever and feel better, you can go back to your normal activities.
The cough may continue for some time after this even though the infection has cleared. You do not need to stay at home because of a cough if you feel well and have no fever or shortness of breath.
If your symptoms have not got better in 7 days, use this tool again before you have contact with anyone else.
Call 111 if you become so unwell that you have to stop doing everything you normally do (eg watching TV, using your phone, getting out of bed).
Make sure you select the option to speak to someone. Tell them you are calling about possible coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms.
The phone service will be very busy but you must wait until you get through.
How do I treat my symptoms?
You can look after your symptoms at home by:
- Drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids.
- Taking paracetamol or ibuprofen.
